A Bacon Filled Rant. There’s no bacon. I’ve cheated you. I’ve cheated you and you didn’t even notice.

Hey, you know what makes me angry?

When I can’t come up with a title for a new blog thing I’mma do.

So, here’s what’s gonna happen… Most of the time I’ll do the review type things, you know because all the fans are clamouring for it and whatever, but sometimes I’ll talk about something that really metaphorically grinds my hypothetical gears and maybe I can get the other members of the Bacon Strip Empire to contribute to this website and possibly create some more web traffic… I’m looking at you, [Unspecified member(s) of BSE] Assuming we can get more popularity by doing this.

So, I’m going to talk about something that drives me, crazy. And that would be cars, you crazy guy.

So, I’m going to talk about something that drives me crazy. And that would be America. (See? Grammar matters.)

Yeah, America.

Hey, I got no problem with America, I know some cool cats that come from there and I’ve been there myself. It’s nice enough, so long as you stay out of Miami. I’m not going to talk about why America is stupid, I’m just going to talk about why I’m done with America as a setting in video games and movies and stuff.

Actually. Probably just in games. That’s where my expertise lies.

See, the problem with using America as a setting is that there are only a handful of noteworthy cities in America that you can set something in. Or you can just make up a city. But chances are the made up city is in America… Like Willamette, although that’s probably a real city. Ok, Silent Hill? That’s a fake American city right? I’m not good at examples.

See, it goes like this, a heap of games that take place in modern times take place in America. I enjoy Dead Island because I get to see a tropical environment. I live in Canada, so I kind of know what America looks like. I want to play a game that sends me to someplace I’ve never been. Which is why Mass Effect has big appeal for this guy. You get to go to a heap of different planets that all look different and have had a lot of time put into them. Maybe. I also enjoy fantasy games because there’s a ninety percent chance you won’t find Cloud walking around New York any time soon… But I don’t like Final Fantasy. That’s a whole other thing, though.

I’m not saying that we should do away with America. I’m just saying that maybe tone it back. Or set it in a different time period. Assassin’s Creed 3 was pretty rad, and that game was all about the Americas. Fallout 3, which took place in alternate reality America, was really interesting, despite having some of the most patriotic characters since the… Patriots…

America isn’t a bad place to set your games. But it’s just getting boring. Maybe if it’s done right then America would stop being boring.

What do you think about the greatest place on Earth? How do you feel about Gods last refuge for man-kind? Why don’t you just go ahead and tell me in the comments.
